"I've fucked around for most of my life and the only thing I've learnt from it is that when you wake up in the morning, you're just as empty as you felt the night before. That night in Hong Kong, I thought I'd wake up empty again. I only felt empty when you walked away from me in that airport. Fucked if I understand it, but it's you Alexis." He took a deep breath and held me even closer. "I told you that morning, that I'd never lie to you. I won't. I don't know what this is, but we can work it out together. All I'm asking is for you to give me that chance."

All he was asking? Did he understand how much of a huge step that was for me? I knew enough about Joe to know that he went all in or all out, so he probably did.

"I'm not going anywhere," he murmured, lowering his lips to mine. I let him kiss me with a tenderness I'd never seen in him before. He didn't try to claim me, he didn't try to touch me, he just pressed his mouth against mine like I was something precious. "I'm going to take care of you." His breath was warm against my mouth. "Will you let me?"

I was so tired, I just let everything go. I felt it bleed from my skin and my heart as I slumped against his body. I was so tired and something inside me knew he was right about everything. He believed it and maybe I could, too. For the first time since the accident, I felt hope beginning to spark.

"Can you take me home?" I asked, my eyes drooping.

  "Of course."

Bewildered, I let him lead me from the cemetery, away from my past and to someplace else.

  Someplace unknown.

  Joe

  Three months later...

  I liked Alexis' place.

It was a bit empty, but I'd see to filling it with records and guitars and 'boy shit', as she put it, until I was so ingrained in the woodwork, no amount of elbow grease would ever get me out. I'd keep my place in Sydney and stick around with Alexis until she got sick of me…or didn't.

Jake had called me yesterday. He and Blair had finally gotten back to Australia and were on their way to visit his folks. He wanted to know if Alexis and I wanted to come. He said something about wanting to meet the woman who'd cut off my balls, but I wasn't listening. My Storm meeting my family, both of my families, after only a few months?

We were still figuring it out as we went. She was working through her problems bit by bit, and witnessing Jake's slow road to recovery, it would take time. Sooner or later Affliction would have to go back to the studio and start recording, but until then, we went about our lives, talking about everything and anything, fucking and fucking some more…while I dicked around writing some songs and she wrote her books. Without the doubts and guilt that had wreaked havoc on her, it was just…easy. We fit together and that was all we needed.

I especially liked that Storm grabbed my cock any chance she got and called it 'research'. I just called it a good time.

I knew I was falling in love with her. How the fuck couldn't I know it? She was all I wanted to see every single fucking day and I knew that it'd just slip out when I least expected it and that would be it.

I was reclined half naked on her bed when she got back from her trip to the supermarket, book in hand. I'd never read one of Storm's books before and fuck, she was good with words. I mean, I knew it from all the dirty things she'd said during sex, but fuck me sideways…I didn't know the half of it. When she came into the bedroom, I dropped it on top of my chest so she couldn't see the cover.

"What are you reading?" she asked, a frown creasing her pretty forehead.

"Just a little somethin' somethin'." I gave her a wink.

  "Fox…"

Standing on the opposite side of the bed, I waved the book at her and laughed when I saw the expression on her face fall into shock. "It's the first book I've read since high school and shit, have I been missing out."

She launched herself at me with a shriek, trying to pry it from my hands.

"Throbbing cocks?" I said, holding up high where she couldn't reach. "There's a bunch of throbbing pussies, too. Throbbing is a recurring theme."

  "Joe!"

"I like it, Storm. I like the part where-"

She slapped a hand over my mouth. "I am one hundred percent mortified that you read one of my books."

I licked her palm and pulled her hand away. "Now I know all your moves and I'm desperate to try 'em all out."

  "You filthy-"

"Look who's talking, Storm. You make a fucking living outta it."

"So do you, hot shot," she retorted. Well, she had me there, didn't she?

"I never knew how much of a sexual deviant you really were."

"I never knew you could read a complete sentence."

"Low blow," I exclaimed, tossing the book across the room and backed her toward the bed.

"Did you just throw one of my books?" she asked, feigning disgust.

"What you gunna do about it?"

She grabbed my cock through the front of my boxers and with a groan, I pushed her back onto the bed. I landed gently on top of her and she let out a squeal of laughter.

  "Joe!"

"You're stuck with me, Storm. Now, how's about that aching pussy? Let me massage it for you with my throbbing cock…"

Real life isn't like the movies.

There wasn't a cut scene or a montage that brought you up to speed. It wasn't like one of Alexis' books with a happily ever after. It was a happy for now, because that was reality. We'd have our ups and downs and fights over stupid shit. Maybe one day we'd fall out of love, or maybe not. Life was never certain and it never told you its plans. It just bitch slapped you when it was convenient for it and fuck what you wanted.

Who the hell knew what was going on when we ended up on that plane together? What celestial alignment had to happen for some automated computer system someplace to punch our names together in a seating chart...

The sun was rising on a fresh start for both of us and when we came to the rise in the road, we'd either be blinded or see the world laid out before us. We agreed to play it by ear, see what today held and not worry about tomorrow. We promised to try and make the fantasy reality.

She couldn't give me more than that…not yet.

But, fucking hell. I was going to give her more inspiration than she could handle for as long as she would have me. We were each other’s muses and lit the fire in our souls. That was undeniable.

What the what is the deal with these extra novellas, Amity?

I only ever intended to write Blair and West’s story. Honest.

After Unexplainable (#2) came out, I received several emails and Twitter blasts asking if there was going to be a story about Joe. Apparently the sucker went and stole a few hearts after that scene with Blair in that hotel bar… Because those lovely readers asked nicely, I wrote a story about Joe.

Unintended (the final part of Blair and West’s story) came out a month later and I put in a little taste tester for Undeniable in the back. Readers emailed me again and told me that they thought Joe would run off and fall in love with Affliction’s manager, Sasha. Obviously that didn’t happen, so they asked if I was planning to write a story about her. I wasn’t, but they asked nicely…again…so I’m writing another story.

And just to top it off, I’m writing a third companion novella, just so all of Affliction can get their angsty angsty rock and roll lovin’ on.

  That’s it. I swear.
